Tennis Courts Karuizawa

The Karuizawa Lawn Tennis Club located in Kyu Karuizawa is where we gathered every morning, afternoon. This was the main gathering place to socialize, play tennis and make evening plans. An army of gaijin mingled with many Japanese families who flee Tokyo's oppressive hot, humid climate.  Here I captured a shot of the tennis courts in 1966. Mt. Asama as a backdrop. Pictured here is the Pro Shop. The Aikido Dojo behind to the right.

Tennis was important. All of us kids took tennis lessons and participated in the Karuizawa tournaments held In August every year. We all had a great affinity for our tennis pro, Watanabe. We called him "Watta" sometimes we called him "Nabey san"  Always a smile, and was kind to all of us. Hereunder is a photo of Nabey sitting outside his pro shop, which only sold tennis balls on occasion and no more.

  2. The Dojo is the larger building on the right. Remember this photo was taken in 1966, so am not sure if the Dojo might be there. Good Luck on your search. I miss Karuizawa, hope to return in near future.
