Jerusalem, Israel Summer 2015

Old City of Jerusalem

Summer of 2015 brings us to Israel. on the 3rd day, we take a trip to Jerusalem, approximately a 45 minute drive from Tel Aviv. We approach the Mount of Olives and this spectacular view of ancient Jerusalem opens up.
Atop the hill, snap away at this view capturing the ancient city of Jerusalem surrounded by the high stone walls.  The Dome of the Rock proudly sits atop towering the Western Wall. Tha Al Aqsa Mosque can be seen to the northwest at 11 o"clock with a grayish black dome.  From this perspective the "Western Wall" the holiest of the site of the Jewish people cannot be seen.

Jewish Cemetery Overlooking  Jerusalem
Being returned to the Homeland and in eternity, the Jewish cemetery overlooks the ancient City of Jerusalem. At the bottom right, observant Orthodox Jews offer prayers for the lost loved ones.

View from Jaffa Gate.
One of the entrances to the Old City of Jerusalem is Jaffa Gate. Passing thru this gate opens up to the Arab Souk, otherwise known as the market. Several hundred Arab merchants offer their product behind small 10 foot stalls or small shops. From spices, trinkets, fabric, tableclothes, leather goods, the sport of bargaining and haggling is very much alive and vibrant. Arguements and healthy negotiations permeate every cornber of the Arab Souk. Tourist flock to the souk to bring home souvenirs for their families and loved ones.

Jewish Quarters, Old City of Jerusalem
The Old City comprises of all religions, faiths, peoples all living together in harmony several thousands years ago. Viewed in above photo is a part of the Jewish quarters of Jerusalem.
Structurally, not much has changed. Walking through the streets of Jerusalem hurtles one back thousands of years, and quickly come to realize we walk in the same footsteps of the ancient Israelites, Romans, Arabs, Philistines and all those who once conquered and dwelled in this historic city.

View from From Mt. of Olives
Atop Mt. Of Olives,  a panorama of the dessert. In the distant haze, the Dead Sea can be seen and beyond that, Jordan. The dry dessert topography, shadows the City of Jerusalem to the east.

Bird's Eye View of Jerusalem
Before going off to lunch, one last view, snap shot of this incredibly amazing ancient city.
We move onto the famous King David Hotel, where many of the famous actors, kings, royalty, famous musicians, politicians, and powerful people have all stayed at this famous landmark.
