The Tori Gate sits in the heart of Akasaka in Minato Ward, Tokyo. The backdrop potted with modern architecture buildings. A sharp contrast of the new vs the old, and this is yet one of many places where east meets west. While Japan is a modern country, it still maintains it's traditions, charm and Japanese way of life. This gate is the entrance to Hie Shrine.

A place of worship and purification. Enter the tunnel of Torii gates and see a world where religion and modernization merge together in perfect harmony. History of the shrine dates back to the Kamakura Period (1185-1333) when a man named Edo (A name that is not related in any way to the founding of Edo) built a shrine inside his residence. His land is located on the present day Imperial Palace.Others believe that on the year 1457 a man named Ota Dokan built the Edo Castle within the Imperial grounds. Afterwards he constructed a Hie Shrine on the year 1478. Then came Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, who became a patron of the shrine and later rebuilt it. The citizens of Edo (Tokyo’s old name) worship the deity that is enshrined in the Hie shrine as the city’s protector.Jingumae, neighborhood, hosts Harajuku, the 1964 Tokyo Olympic stadium, young, old and beautiful parks. A stroll thru Yoyogi Park , the Meiji Shrine park brings us to yet another throwback in history.
